Welcome to the Mid-State Special Education Cooperative
Serving children, families, and schools with kindness, flexibility, and grace!
On behalf of the MSSE administrative team and our member districts, I would like to welcome you to our website designed with our stakeholders in mind. Since 1967, our school districts in rural central Illinois have worked jointly in order to provide a variety of special education programs and services to students in order to meet the educational needs of all learners. Knowing that together we can provide more, our 13-member districts continue to work cooperatively in order to access and share the benefits of experienced specialists and expertise, to maximize resources, and to provide quality educational services to all students. MSSE has evolved over time; however, our commitment to excellence and our dedication to the children, families, and educators we serve remains stronger than ever.
Given the ongoing pandemic, it is imperative that we are working together with families and schools to provide safe and targeted services to support the learning and social emotional well-being of all children. There continue to be plenty of distractions, but we will do what we do best which is to provide quality therapy, evaluation, instruction, expertise, and/or supports to all of those we serve. We have learned a lot in the past 18 months which include flexibility, individualization/meeting others where they are, prioritizing, supporting each other, and taking care of ourselves. Upon reflection, my message from the start of last year continues to be relevant:
- There will be a lot of distractions, but keep your focus on the kids.
- Although this may be the most difficult and challenging year you’ve experienced, remember that we are experts at providing education differently, and it is OK to lean on our strong and very experienced team—any time—day or night.
- We will serve children, families, and schools with kindness, flexibility, and grace! (taking care to extend these same qualities to ourselves)
We are in this together, and we hope that you find our updated website helpful and easy to access whether you are a student, parent, caretaker, educator, or community member. Please let us know if you have any ideas which might help us improve our services or our site by clicking here.
